Gobind Rai Parkash Workshop

Vaheguru ji ka khalsa Vaheguru ji ki fateh.

‘In the month of Maagh, let your cleansing bath be the dust of the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. Meditate and listen to the Name of the Lord, and give it to everyone…’

This month we celebrated a very special moment, not just in Sikh history but in this world’s history and that was the coming of Dhan Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Mahraj to this earth. MSDS used this workshop opportunity to learn and tell the sakhi of Pir Bhikan Shah and how they felt God’s presence on earth. We had a lovely time researching and listening to katha to understand more about their desire and determination to get Darshan of child Gobind Rai. MSDS thought about our own relationship with Guru Sahib, we know of the many sacrifices they had given for us (previous workshop) and wanted to learn and share more about their childhood, thus our second workshop focused on Gobind Rai and their childhood.

Going through the sakhi of Pir Bhikan Shah, we learned of their determination to travel miles and miles to reach Patna Sahib. We asked our workshoppers to think about the presents and gifts Pir Ji and his companions would have taken for child Gobind Rai- Of course we never go to Guru Sahib empty handed and we certainly don’t leave empty handed too!

Money Milk Toys Clothes Fruit Flowers Pure Heart Love Kindness

We asked our workshoppers to think of a time they so desperately wanted to see someone and how they felt. ‘I wanted to see my nanni and nanni but I can’t because of COVID.’ After the sakhi of Pir Ji, we focused on the qualities of Gobind Rai. We spoke of their love for gardening, their skillful use of slingshots and their giving and loving nature. We asked our workshoppers to think about Gobind Rai as their friend- possibly the same age or younger than them, Gobind Rai was getting ready to travel to Anandpur Sahib, what will you give to Gobind Rai on their travel, what will you say to them?
Here, Gobind Rai has been giften a strong, reliable horse. Our workshopper wanted Gobind Rai to have the best companion on Their journey.
One of our workshoppers wanted Gobind Rai to have a Rabaab to keep Them entertained and emersed in kirtan.
To set out on Their travels, Gobind Rai was also given a new Kalgi, to mark Their royalness for the world to see.
Lastly, one of our workshoppers felt Gobind Rai would love a new slingshot!

We had lovely time learning and telling the Sakhi of Pir Bhikan Shah and child Gobind Rai and we look forward to seeing you all at our next workshop!
