Virtual Shaheedi Camp December 2020!

We’ve been busy this month!

As you’re all aware, we are a new org venturing into the world of camps and virtually connecting with Sangat. After our first successful workshop under MSDS, we thought we would take a leap of faith and venture into virtual camps. Thus today’s blog will be dedicated to our first ever two day MSDS camp!!!

We decided to have the camp in the month of December (Poh) to reflect on the huge sacrifices of our Father, Sri Guru Gobind Singh Sahib Ji Mahraj and their four beloved Sahibzade (Princes). COVID had taken away any chances of camps, meeting Sangat and attending any programmes. As a new org we wanted to do something to help us and others come together and truly reflect and understand why the month of December (Poh) is so important to us. We had two fun filled days where our speakers presented workshops and talks for their given topic with the focus being the Shaheed of the Sahibzade. No doubt, a lot of prep and planning goes into organising camps- one of us here at MSDS is absolutely brilliant at getting things together, the other however, needed way more instructing. Nonetheless with the support of Sikh PA, P6 Academy, Sikh 2 Inspire, Miss Kaur Humanities, Basics of Sikhi, SWAT and Saving Punjab and Buddha Dal UK, Mata Sahib Deva Sikhia camp went ahead on the 26th and 27th of December.

The days were split into two; the 5 to 11 year olds attended camp on Saturday and 12-16 year olds attended on the Sunday. Camp started with Japji Sahib Paath and Ardaas, followed by 4 workshops and then ended with a final Divaan of Kirtan, Sampooran Choupia Sahib and Ardaas. Once camp had ended, we invited parents/carers to stay behind and have a very casual chat with us where they had the space to feedback and let us know what they would like us to cover next time.

The speakers created a 45 minute talk with a creative element to help drive forth what MSDS represents and how we like to work. Needless to say, each and every single speaker adapted their usual way of delivering talks to help support our organisation and for that we thank you all. We’ll include some links and pictures of activities below so you can see the great work from the speakers and campers.

Our virtual camp could not have happened without Guru Sahib’s blessing and without the support from Sangat and other organisations.
