Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh

'...man breaks flowers with one hand and offers them with the other, but the flowers perfume both hands alike. The axe cuts the sandal tree, yet the sandal perfumes the axe.'

This month our workshop was dedicated to our 7th Master, Dhan Sri Guru Har Rai Sahib Ji. We had a lot of fun learning about Guru Sahib and Their love and respect for all living beings, animals and plants included. We did what we usually do; listen to katha, find sakhis and share what we learned and figure out what to focus on.

One of the key things that really stood out for us was Guru Har Rai Sahib Ji's love and respect for nature. We learned of Their walks through gardens with Their grandfather, Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji and the important lesson They learned when Their chola caught a plant and broke it off. We learned of the many ways that Guru Har Rai Sahib Ji showed utmost respect to Gurbani- even turning away Their own son for changing the words of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Sahib Ji.

Sri Guru Har Rai Sahib Ji demonstrated daya in many aspects of Their jeevan. They were truely the epitome of compassion and this was something we wanted our workshoppers to hold on to. Through this workshop we learned many things about Guru Sahib Ji and Their darbar, the beauty that blossomed in Kiratpur Sahib, the animal sanctuaries and of the 'pharmacies' that stored all the rarest herbs used to treat alimants of all kind.Through Them we learned the importance of kisaan, of giving back to the land, tending to the land and encouraging it to blossom with Shabad.

Sticking to the themes of nature, respect and compassion we tasked our very awesome workshoppers to create their own plant pots, decorate them how they desired and then fill the pots with soil and plant a flower/plant of their choice!

Once the workshoppers completed their beautiful pots, we asked them to draw and colour a Nishaan Sahib, cut it out and use a decorated stick to attach to the Nishaan Sahib and place it inside the pots.

This workshop was truly enjoyeable, our workshoppers created such beautiful pieces of work. They were able to recognise the work that goes into planting, farming and caring for nature and the importance for us, to support and continue Guru Har Rai Sahib Ji's vision of truly loving the earth we tread on.
